Autumn Vintage - September 2025

I have always had a love of vintage, and particularly the Art Deco style of the 1920s and 1930s. There is something about the celebration of unabashed glamour, bold geometry and luxurious craftsmanship.

We wanted to share our love of this design style and how beautiful florals can be when paired with vessels from the period, in particular pressed and moulded glass vases and floral frogs from prominent makers such as George Davidson, Sowerby, Bagley & Co, Stolze and Fenton.

The Art Deco era

Emerging as a reaction to the ornate styles of the preceding Art Nouveau and Victorian eras, Art Deco drew its inspiration from artistic movements like cubism and futurism. The era, which officially debuted at the 1925 Exposition in Paris, represents an intoxicating mix of optimism, modernity and opulence.

George Davidson and Cloud Glass

We have a few very rare and sought-after standout pieces from George Davidson. He founded the Teams Flint Glass Works in 1867, which later became known as George Davidson & Co. During the 1920s, designs changed to reflect the new Art Deco trends, and the company began producing its hugely successful Cloud Glass range, created by applying streaks of dark coloured glass to paler glass to produce a random swirled, clouded pattern. The technique was applied to jade glass too.
